The Vetting & Barring Scheme Information Roadshow
Dave from the Volunteer Centre spent Wednesday morning at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham finding out more about the new Vetting and Barring Scheme. He was faced by a bewildering array of logos:
Fortunately, experts and speakers were on hand to guide us through the complexities of these organisations and their involvement in the scheme.
The day started with an overview of the legislation and a look at what’s new in the new system. After coffee and (chocolate) biscuits, we learned about some of the practical things that they and we need to take to prepare for the introduction of Vetting and Barring and some key dates. After a sector specific round-up, the morning closed with a lengthy and fairly comprehensive Question and Answer session.
There was a lot of complex information given to us, so the most useful thing that we brought back from the event was a booklet of FAQs. Please form an orderly queue to have a read of our copy.
Better still, you can find out lots more online:
- ISA – www.isa-gov.org
- CRB – www.crb.gov.uk
- Department Of Health – www.dh.gov.uk/en/SocialCare/Deliveringadultsocialcare/Vulnerableadults/index.htm
There is a lot of information to digest about this, so we will post more information on this blog soon and we will organise some briefing sessions between now and the time when we will have to start registering ourselves and our volunteers under the scheme.
