As our series of posts about Volunteers Week showed, it was a celebration of volunteers and volunteering that underpinned the week, but we want to involve lots of people in some kind of volunteering for Make a Difference Day 2009.
This is the letter that we have sent out to all the charity shops that we have located in South Derbyshire, but if you are involved in, or know of any other charity shop in our area, please let us know.
We are now planning for this year’s Make a Difference Day, when we work with organisations across the public private and voluntary sectors to mobilise volunteers. I would very much like your organisation to be part of the major event that we are planning to mark this.
This high profile, national day of action provides the perfect opportunity for you to celebrate the work of your volunteers, raise the profile of your organisation and recruit new volunteers to your team.
This year, we will run a publicity campaign to invite people to make donations of good quality, saleable items that might otherwise languish in cupboards, wardrobes or garages. We will have the donated items brought to a central point in Swadlincote where volunteers will sort them and distribute them among the participating charity shops that have told us that they want to participate.
I am writing to every charity shop of which we are aware to invite you and your colleagues an initial meeting on Wednesday 1st July at 3:00pmhere at South Derbyshire CVS. This meeting is to discuss how this event can support your shop and to find out about your priorities for donated items.
Please contact Chris Wagstaff or me to confirm that you can come to this meeting
We are also arranging media coverage of the event.
If you are not part of a charity shop team, keep visiting this blog because we will post more details of how you can be involved as soon as possible.
