International Volunteer Managers’ Day 2009

Andy Fryar is an Aussie volunteering manager, trainer, guru and all round good bloke. He is also the chair of the International Volunteer Managers’ Day organisation. He recently posted this message on their Facebook page, but because not all South Derbyshire’s Volunteer Managers are on Facebook, I thought worth reposting here.
Hi everyone

IVMDay 2009 is only two months away, so let’s do all that we can to promote the day and let others know about the important work that we undertake

Here are a few simple things you can do:

1. Spread the word to your peers and colleagues about this facebook group. Get them to sign up and let’s aim for 1000 members by IVMDay 2010

2. If you are planning any IVMDay events this year, please make sure they are listed on the IVMDay website. Email me at andy@ozvpm.com if you have something to list

3. Make sure that your local volunteer centre, Office for Volunteers, government Minister or volunteering peak body are aware of IVMDay and promoting it. If they are not, ask ‘WHY NOT!’

Let’s use IVMay 2009 as a mechanism to keep growing this wonderful profession we all work in

So what should we do here in South Derbyshire? Add a comment to this post if you have an idea for something that we can do to celebrate us as Volunteer Managers. By the way IVM Day is 1st November – straight after “Make A Difference Day”.

News about Make a Difference Day will be posted here in the next few days.

  1. Andy Fryar says:

    Hi all
    Thanks for promoting UVMDay 2009.
One quick correction though – the day is now celebrated on November 5 and not Nov 1 (it changed last year) …but I hope that does not stop any of you celebrating
    Cheers
    Andy Fryar

  2. Hi andy & all,
This is great news because we are running our session for Volunteeer Managers on “Making the Most of Volunteer Talents” on November 5th.

We’ll have to have a celebration cake at the session.

    Regards
    Dave T
