Yesterday we sent out a very speculative email to ask if people would be prepared to help out if needed in the cold weather.
The present bad weather is affecting all of us, but older people and disabled people could potentially be worst hit. As the snow and ice seem likely to continue for a while yet, we are getting some requests from caring organisations and services for volunteers to do some shopping for people who are having trouble getting out of their homes.
If you are willing to be called on, if needed, to visit someone in your own locality, please let me know by email, or by phone to 01283 219761 and I’ll add you to our list of emergency volunteers. I hope there will be no need to call on you, but it would be great to know that if a call comes in, there will be someone there to respond.
We were delighted that in less than 12 hours, more than 50 people responded to offer their help, and more offers are coming in as I write this.
So if you or your organisation is aware of any vulnerable people who could do with some shopping fetching, get in touch with us. Email Chris Wagstaff or phone the Duty Manager on 01283 219761.
Please also contact us to offer your help as a volunteer.
