County Council Recognition for Weather Emergency Volunteers

We are delighted to recieve this email from Councillor Chris Jackson, Deputy Leader of Derbyshire County Council:

I have been hearing, from our office, the public and Elected Members, about your involvement in the response during the severe weather.

Your assistance has been invaluable in providing support, and essential supplies, to vulnerable people in the community.  It is at times like these we see the vital role the voluntary sector play in providing this critical support for communities, particularly those in the more remote areas of the County.

I would like to express my, and the County Council’s, appreciation of your efforts which has helped to keep people comfortable in their own homes during these very difficult weather conditions.

Once again, many thanks, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to deal with such public-spirited members of the public.

Although we haven’t had a huge flurry of referrals, its great to know that the great team of volunteers who have been on standby are appreciated. With more snow forecast, it’s still quite possible that we could yet be asked to provide help to elderly, disabled or vulnerable people.

After reading about an elderly couple who were found dead in their home during the peak of the snowy/icy start to the year – it is good to know that there are people who are willing to commit time and to help. Well done volunteers!!!
