South Derbyshire’s Volunteers’ Week celebration event 2010 took place on Saturday 5th June at Rosliston Forestry Centre.
This centre is one of South Derbyshire’s real jewels and is a country park that attracts families from all over the district, and way beyond.
Our celebration party was based in the barn Room at Rosliston, although we also overflowed into a separate room for the sumptuous buffet provided by South Derbyshire CVS, and outside for some games.
After a welcome from Jo Smith, Chief Executive of CVS, the fun started.
We have been reliably told that we wouldn’t have made it out alive if we hadn’t provided at least a game or two of bingo. With the expert help and high-tech bingo machine supplied by Issy Gratton from the Lincote Resource Centre, the bingo addicts were satisfied with three games and some great prizes donated mainly by CVS staff.
One of our star volunteers, Kay, along with admin worker Jaymie, took the lead on the dominoes tournament. Kay also introduced a lot of people to the game of Beetle and one of the winners of her Beetle Drive was a young volunteer.
There were also two separate quizzes run by CVS Development worker, Eric Clayton with some fiendishly difficult questions. It was won, of course, by the team who complained loudest while Eric was reading out the questions.
The outdoor games were coordinated and run by young people from Derbyshire’s Youth Action Team, with support from Viv Carnea of vinvolved. Emma, Tom and James were great and their effort added a lot to the day, as you can see from the picture above of some of the volunteers recapturing the lost art of skipping.
Rosliston Forestry Centre is very popular with families, especially on a weekend with the great weather that we had. Quite a lot of visitors to Rosliston came over to have a go on some of the games and it was great to see a celebration of volunteering become such a family event.
Lots of staff and volunteers from South Derbyshire CVS helped out during the planing and on the day and our thanks go to all of them.
There will be another post on this blog with more pictures from the event in the next couple of days.
