Dave from the Volunteer Centre attended a conference about online marketing yesterday. There were lots of business types there, finding out how to use the internet to make them lots of money. Although we don’t actually sell you anything, it was interesting that we also want to use the same kinds of online services to support volunteer managers and to promote volunteering.
There were far too many lessons from yesterday to repeat them all here in a quick blog post, but I will share two immediate actions that we are taking to try to make this blog and our other online social media serve you better.
In the past we have simply linked this blog with our Facebook page and our Twitter profile. This certainly put our messages out very widely, but not particularly clearly at times.
If you look at our Facebook page, it often contained lots of Tweets. These were never designed for Facebook and are almost all replies to other people’s Twitter posts that are part of conversations. If you see one part of a conversation on Facebook, it almost certainly won’t make any sense.
We will continue to link this blog to Facebook and Twitter, but we will keep Facebook conversations on Facebook and Twitter conversations on Twitter. When something important, that we think you need to know comes up, we will post it here on the blog.
So, please make sure that you subscribe to the blog by entering your email address into the box at the top of the column on the right side of this page.
