New Beginnings

One of the things that we do well in volunteering is bouncing back from setbacks and adversity.

On this blog last week we were bemoaning the loss of so many talented colleagues from our sector. Today we are making changes and adjustments to enable us to retrench and to find new ways to work that provide the best possible service to the people who rely on us and our organisations.

Here at the Volunteer Centre South Derbyshire, we are not immune from these cuts. This means that we are having to make some changes to the way that we support volunteers and volunteer managers.

Supporting Volunteers and Potential Volunteers

Our Volunteering Advice Sessions will now take place every Tuesday and Wednesday. These sessions are when people who want to know more about volunteering can come in and find out about the range of opportunities that are available in and around South Derbyshire.  Ann is available every Tuesday and Teresa on a Wednesday. They are both volunteers.

You are welcome to drop in on a Tuesday or Wednesday at the Volunteer Centre, which is at:

South Derbyshire CVS,
46 – 48 Grove Street,
Swadlincote,
Derbyshire
DE11 9DD

However, it is usually better to book an appointment with one of the team first by phoning 01283 219761.

You can, of course, still see all our active volunteering opportunities on

Supporting Volunteer Managers and Organisations

We are going to try to continue to provide one-to-one support to Volunteer Managers and volunteer-involving organisations when they need it, by streamlining the way that we provide networking and training sessions. We are linking up with the South Derbyshire CVS Development team to combine our Volunteer Managers’ Forum with their Voluntary Sector Forum under the shiny new name of the Civil Society Forum.

Our first CSF meeting will be on Wednesday 8th June (at the end of Volunteers Week) between 09:30 and 14:00 (including a bite of lunch). Please put this date into your diary as we’d love to see you there.

If you would like more information, support with volunteering or to give us some feedback on these changes, please contact Dave Thomas on 01283 550163 or davet@sdcvs.org.uk
