South Derbyshire Volunteers Respond to the Arrival of Winter

For the second year running, a team of volunteers are on standby to help elderly and disabled people cope with the winter weather.  The volunteers are willing to go and visit elderly or disabled people, to ensure that they are warm, have enough food in and generally to check that they are OK.

The team was set up last winter by the Volunteer Centre South Derbyshire and many of the same volunteers have cpme forward again this year. Volunteer Centre Manager Dave Thomas is delighted with the response, saying:

“As soon as the bad weather arrived, we realised that older people and people with mobility problems could have the same problems of getting out as they did last year. We sent a quick email out to last year’s volunteers and I am delighted at the positive response.”

The Volunteer Centre is keen to have more volunteers come forward so that the whole of South Derbyshire is covered and of course, we really want to know about anyone who would benefit from a visit by one of the team.”
